Aggregate Chip Seal

Chip seals (also referred to as oil & stone) are the single most common surface treatment maintenance method used.

Uses

A chip seal is used to protect the pavement or underlying road surface from the deteriorating effects of the sun and water a well as increasing the skid resistance of the underlying surface.

A chip seal is an application of asphalt emulsion followed by an aggregate cover.

Treatment

Often more than one layer of a chip seal treatment is applied to a roadway. Two or three applications can be applied using the same equipment providing greater durability. The video here shows a larger scale application.
